Problem with Meade LX850

Hello,

I'm new to Prism software, only a few days using it, however; I have a problem that I cannot solve.

I am trying to drive my Meade LX850 StarLock mount with Prism. The Meade LX850 is a German equatorial
mount and using the Meade Universal (for LX850 and LX600 mounts) ASCOM driver and ASCOM 6.3.0.2821 on
a Dell i5 desktop system running Win 10.

I have been using SGPro for imaging and the SGP software drives the LX850 as it should. I realize that
the driver for the LX850 is not a very good one and is missing many features leaving the LX850 without
any hope of being fully automated. I only need it to slew the sky under computer control. If this can be
done, I can live with this.

Here's where the problem lies. When confined to objects east of the meridian all works as it should.
When moving to objects west of the meridian the mount moves gives the following message and then slews
to the next object gives a similar message and slews on. Slewing and slewing the imaging session never happens!

This goes on and on for all objects in the western sky. No images were taken, just mount slewing and slewing.
I have adjusted all the parameters having to do with flips with no luck!

I tried the exact same setup (nothing changed except the mount) with an iOptron iEQ45 mount with no failures
worked perfectly.

I need the LX850 to work. It can carry a 95 pound payload for lots of gear.

Any help with this will be appreciated.

this sounds like a meridian flip parameter problem, can you please upload a screenshot of the telescope tab in the automatic observation here? What is your Meade driver set to flip the mount at? Meridian, be fore, after?

Thanks for your prompt attention to this issue. Here is the Telescope panel (see attached).

Here is the Telescope Control panel that displays after the mount is connected (see attached).

Here's a quote from the Meade LX850 instruction manual, from the Setup Menu of the
hand box:
"Max Past Meridian: Allows you to set how far the OTA axis can tilt past the meridian.
2 <degrees> is the default setting."

I have tried various values from 0 to 15 with the same results, no difference. I also tried
-2.0 and had the same result. No change at all.

Good evening

So, if you set the value to 0 in the hand controller will mean that the mount will flip at the meridian. In the Telescope tab of the automatic observation, set the first box to -5 ( minutes of time before the meridian ) and the second one to 5 (minutes passed the meridian). This way, PRISM will stop imaging 5 minutes prior and slew 5 minutes passed the meridian to intercept the object. Consequently, this will cause a meridian flip.

Please let me know if this resolves it.

I set the hand controller to 0 for "Max past meridian". The other parameters are shown in the attachments below.
I'm including the entire set for you to look at to see what I may have done incorrectly.
I can use this same procedure on objects in the east and slewing and imaging work as I think they should.
Here is the entire log of two objects I selected from the Sky Chart. Both in the western sky. I terminated the run after the mount just moved
back and forth a couple of times (no images).

After a phone call to determine the source of the issue, we discovered that the SideOfPier reported by Meade's ASCOM driver is actually incorrect rendering meridian flips impossible. I will continue to research this matter to find a resolution. If anyone has further information, please do not hesitate to share it with us here.
